An Open Letter To My Dad

Dear Dad,

Happy Birthday!

A few days ago, you mentioned that although I’ve written an open letter to both my Boyfriend and my Mam, I haven’t written one to you. Well, what you didn’t know is that I’ve had this one planned for a while now, and I was just waiting for the perfect occasion to write it!

Now, this is going to be a hard one for me to write. I’m awful at showing my emotions, and I’ve never been a big lover of affection, especially with those close to me (which is a bit weird, I know).

But, I know it’ll make you happy so here we go…(just don’t read this in front of me please!)

You’ve always been there for me when I needed you, as a child and still today.

I know that if I ever got in trouble you’d be straight there, even if I was at the other end of the country. Or, if I got into an accident…talking from experience of course, oops!

Thank you for being my personal taxi driver, and for taking me wherever I need to go…even if I’m just being a bit lazy! Thank you for driving me across the country to see One Direction time and time again, and for refreshing every ticket-selling site hundreds of times to make sure I didn’t miss out on the best seats.

Thank you for helping me with all of my school work, and for spending hours on end explaining maths problems to me when all I did was complain.

I’m sorry for all of the arguments, and the silly rows, but I never mean a nasty word that I say.

Even though I find it incredibly hard to say, I do love you, and I really appreciate everything you’ve done for me.

Thank you for being an amazing Dad.

Lots of love,

Lauren x

  1. This is such a lovely post. My dad had a stroke this week so this post really caught my eye on my twitter timeline! I’m similar to you I find it difficult at times to express my feelings to my dad, however I do appreciate all he has done for me. I bet your dad will be proud when he reads this post 🙂
